Hey CB, I've just finished reading this thread, I see nothing has changed

Actually not true Willie.  Russ has not posted all day.  Do you live anywhere near Edinburg?

I have been away a while.  Even when i frequented, I tried to limit my responses to one on any that Russ had input.

The guy is so dumb with such a huge ego, he doesn't know enough to know he doesn't know anything and proved it, beyond the shadow of a doubt, by putting his ideas in a book.  He could be compared to a guy who wrote a book about education of children, but failed the 4th grade, never went back, and now homeschools his kids as references.

As for NSCAA publishing him in the mag.  They must have been really hard up for articles or hoped putting one in would shut him up.  I'm sure they have been inundated by him.  Besides, the stuff I saw that got printed was many shades closer to mainstream thinking than the rest of his stuff.

Should he take a break?  Maybe to the skull?  Might knock some sense into him.  Nah.  I doubt it.  Stupid is as stupid does.

About 50 miles away.

gordonn stays on the outskirts of Edinburgh but he's been fairly quiet recently.   Probably still getting over the shock of Scotland beating France.

Why do you ask?

So I take it that's a "get lost" vote then

Someone in my wife's office is from your area and has relatives running one of those castles that they rent out for corporate retreats and such.  They are trying to get 10 couples together to vacation there next year some time.  We already committed to going if they can pull it together.  Unless, of course, those castles are really haunted.

Do you know what people......after taking a look at the "BEST EVER" thread, I've decided I'm NOT going to slate Russ off any more......because my children are the most precious people on earth and my wife is the other half of my heart and I just dont want to have a go at anyone for the time being. If you see that thread you'll know why.

....Because I CAN

Russ,

I will answer you with a series of quotes:

"Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre
minds."

I am not stating that you have a great spirit or that this site is home to mediocre minds - rather the idea I present is that you present an approach far different than the normal accepted standards and so must expect opposition and resistance.

"Change is the only constant in the world. You either modify your dreams and magnify your skills or find yourself reminiscing about the past."

This is something every coach must be mindful of for if we do not change or at least tweak our approach we will soon realize that not only has the opposition caught up or on to us but might well have passed us by.

“Behind every action must be a thought”

Change for the sake of change is rarely a good thing and so thoughtful consideration must be given to new ideas and concepts. I believe you have given thoughtful consideration to your approach... unless your critics have read your book cover to cover they have not given due consideration, IMO. As someone that has read your book a couple of times... well, you know I appreciate some thing in the book and not so much other things.

If you always do what you've always done,

You will always have what you've always had,

And you will always be what you've always been!

Sometimes we are just afraid of new ideas or old ideas presented differently. We need change if we are to grow. You need to change as well as each and every one of the rest of us need to change... it really can be quite healthy.

FWIW I applied one or two of your techniques this fall but am still evaluating the results. We finished 12-5-2 as a second year varsity program... great athletes, limited skills as soccer players... result oriented... a couple of your ideas worked out well for short-term. Long term I feel the same obstacles still exist to achieve greater success.

Then compare what they do to what you thought up and see which is better after you actually been around the soccer world.
